Constable Greg Luxton (left), of the Lyttelton police, who was first equal in the individual open section of the inaugural Canterbury police triathlon, completes the 500 m swim at Scarborough yesterday. He shared first place with Constable Jim Bedwell, of the New Brighton police. Their winning time for the swim, 20km cycle ride, and skm run was 57min 375.

Representing the Papanui police is Detective Malcolm Mcßae (right), of Central Police Station, in the cycling section of the teams’ event. With Constable John Laugesen (swimmer) and Constable Ross Wylde, both of the Papanui police, Detective Mcßae won the teams’ event in 58min 20s. About 80 Canterbury police from Kaikoura to Ashburton took part in the triathlon, which was held in and around Sumner.
