Show of Japanese jeweller’s handmade work
Handmade jewellery by a Japanese jeweller is on show this week and next week at Mason and Carter Jewellers in Merivale. Mitsuyo Matsumoto had an exhibition at the C.S.A. Gallery last year and the bold designs on show at Merivale are similar to that work. She trained in Kyoto and has exhibited widely in Japan, Europe and New Zealand. Mrs Matsumoto believes that touch is a large part of the attraction of her pieces, “You just have to hold them in your hands and you get a special feeling. A lot of love has gone into each piece,” she said. She works mainly for the middle market in Japan — those people who want to show their individuality by choosing and wearing unusual pieces of jewellery. The Merivale display of her work will continue until March 4.
