Death toll in plane crash now 21
NZPA-Reuter Muelheim AU 21 passengers and crew were feared dead after a West German commuter plane crashed outside the industrial town of Muelheim. Prosecutor Gert Unterberg, who took charge of on-site investigations, said the plane plunged into a field outside Muelheim, which lies in West Germany’s industrial Ruhr region. The cause was not immediately known. The police said earlier that one passenger had survived, but Mr Unterberg said all 19 passengers and two crew were feared dead. Rescue workers said the bodies of the passengers, who were technicians and engineers from firms in the Ruhr area, had been badly mutilated and were almost impossible to identify. Onlookers said pieces of the plane were scattered up to 3km from the scene. The plane’s owner, the Nuernberger Flugdienst (N.F.D.) company, said it was on a scheduled flight from Hanover.
