Michael MacDonald, aged six, of Christchurch, is wheeled up the ramp of the Zoomobile carriage to join his sister, Nicola, aged eight, and others on the vehicle’s inaugural trip round Orana Park on Saturday. The children, who are members of the Crippled Children Society, were escorted by animal characters. The Zoomobile is a Land-Rover and two carriages, one of which is designed to carry wheelchairs. It has been introduced to make it easier for the disabled and the elderly to make their way round the park complex. Built at a cost of $30,000, the Zoomobile was paid for by Orana Park, with help from the proceeds of the 1986 Christchurch Press Garden City Golf Classic and sponsorship from Avon City Ford.
