City development

Sir,—J. K. Moir (January 27) highlights the discord between the old and much (not all) of the new. However, it is unfortunate that he should label those who seek to conserve (not preserve) the historic features of our city as negative reactionaries while those who would like to construct a replica of Dallas are called positive-thinking innovators. The largest Victorian building in our city is the Cathedral and I must admit that it is fast being rendered an anachronism. When the Clarendon building is finished a “Tulloch Tower” would probably provide a much more appropriate centre point than Cathedral Square. — Yours, etc., ROBIN PAWSEY. January 27, 1988.
