N.Z. lamb for Spain push

Wellington reporter A plan to publicise New Zealand lamb in Spain has been worked out by the Meat Industry Association. It has been welcomed by the Minister of Overseas Trade, Mr Moore. Before Spain joined the E.C. in 1986 it was effectively closed to lamb imports, but since then has had access on the same basis as the rest of the E.C. Exporters have been looking at Spain and neighbouring Portugal as

longer-term market prospects. They have worked to secure co-operation with the Spanish Government and importers there, and have developed a plan for increasing demand to create a permanent position for New Zealand lamb. Mr Moore congratulated the association in what had been its first development venture into a new market since control of exports had been returned to the companies after three years of Meat Board control.
