Invading plane from Honduras
NZPA-Reuter Managua The Nicaraguan President, Daniel Ortega, said yesterday that a cargo plane shot down after ferrying supplies to United States-backed rebels had taken off from neighbouring Honduras, violating a regional agreement for ending Central America’s conflicts. Mr Ortega said the information was provided by a crew member who survived the crash, a Nicaraguan, Alejandro Sanchez Herrera, aged 25, who was captured close to the Costa Rican border, about 160 km south-east of Managua. Mr Ortega contradicted* a rebel statement that all 11 of the crew members were killed, saying troops had found only four bodies and were sweeping the jungle region for the remaining six who were thought to have escaped.
