Crime schemes display popular
Senior Constables Kevin Boyce (left) and Ken France, with some of the Neighbourhood Watch pamphlets being distributed during a lunchtime display in Cathedral Square yesterday. The display featured a police “incidents” car and the radio and telephone equipped mobile command module (rear). It was to publicise Neighbourhood Watch schemes, because of the many inquiries about them, said Inspector Mai Griebel. The police were “quite delighted” with the response, said Mr Griebel. “Countless” people showed interest, while more than a hundred "positive queries” were received from people wanting to establish schemes. Mr Griebel said that many people who were already in Neighbourhood Watch groups stopped by the display to say how pleased they were with the scheme. “We were very very pleased with the response that we got. There were a lot more inquiries than we anticipated,” he said..
