Australian win

PA Wellington Zoe Goss took the Australian women’s cricket team to its third win of the Shell Rosebowl Series at the Basin Reserve yesterday with a hard-hitting innings of 96 not out. Australia batted second and were set a target of 169 to win. In spite of losing both opening batswomen cheaply, Belinda Haggett in the first inning for a duck and Sharlene Heywood for 11, Australia won the game with four wickets and seven overs in hand. Heywood scored two 50s in the previous games. Goss came in to replace Haggett in the first over and lasted the entire Australian innings. Her 96 included 12 boundaries. Confident boundary hitting and rapid-fire running soon put paid to New Zealand’s early hopes for a win. The Australian captain, Lyn Larsen, said the team had been as determined to win this game as they had the other two. “Three-nil sounds a lot better to us than 2-1,” she said.>
