Hunt for Kiwi for ice trek
PA Wellington The hunt is on for the New Zealander with special skills and a very special ambition.
An international trekking expedition to the North Pole has a vacancy for the New Zealander. A team of six, led by the British South Pole conqueror, Robert Swan, will haul sleds without back-up support or radios across 960 km. Now the hunt is on for a New Zealander equipped and willing to do the gruelling journey.
The final selection will be made next month for the position, which will involve one year’s preparations and fundraising. All costs will be covered by the expedition’s funding but the job attracts no salary. Organising the selection in New Zealand is the managing director of Venturetreks, Mr Walter Romanes.
Applicants should have sound mountaineering experience, proven physical strength, a record of team co-operation and be aged between 25 and 35. With that must go good public relations qualities for a lecture tour planned after the trip.
