Students seek ‘adequate’ support
PA Wellington Fears that there would be no increase in financial support for students were voiced by the University Students’ Association during the week-end.
The association’s national executive met in Wellington on Saturday and called on the Government to provide adequate income support for students this year.
The present standard tertiary bursary is $4l a week, and an accommodation allowance is $37.50. “It seems certain that a unified youth allowance will not be introduced un-
til 1989, but that should not be an excuse to provide no increase in the level of the bursary,” said the association’s president, Andrew Little.
