Illness forces Phillips out of tournament

Leanne Phillips of Blenheim, the top qualifier in the Cable Price Toyota South Island junior women’s golf championship on Saturday did not get the chance to carry on her good form yesterday. After heading the qualifiers by two strokes on Saturday she had to withdraw from the tournament yesterday because of illness. The New Zealand representative, Tracy Hansen from

Wellington has reached the semi-finals along with Margaret Coughlan (St Clair, Dunedin), Lisa Aldridge (Kapiti) and Kerryn Starr, from the Avondale club in Christchurch. In the semi-finals, Coughlan will play Aldridge and Starr will play Hansen. The Kaiapoi club was well represented among the qualifiers. Five of its junior women reached the final 16. The top 16 qualifiers were:
