Lottery win put off for wedding

From SUE LANCASTER in Blenheim The Blenheim man who may have won a million dollars on the eve of his wedding merely wanted to devote this week-end to the “wonderful woman” he is marrying. He had only just arrived at the home of his parents-in-law to be, in Southland, yesterday when telephoned by “The Press.” The man, who gets married today in a small Southland town, asked not to be named. He wanted to devote all his attention to his wedding and did not want to talk about the Golden Kiwi Lottery he may have won. A spokesman for the lotteries said that a Blenheim man had telephoned on Thursday to say he was the winner of the million dollar lottery. He was on his way to his wedding in the far south and did not have the ticket with him so the win could not be confirmed. However, the man was so confident that he had the million dollar lottery that he still intended going on with his honeymoon before claiming the prize, he said.

The “million dollar” groom said yesterday that he might be prepared to talk about it after his wedding. He also refused to give the location of his honeymoon.
