Players return to team

By

JOHN COFFEY

Andrew Hintz and David Hartshorn return to the Canterbury cricket team for its Shell Trophy tour to Auckland and Wellington next week. They replace Chris Flanagan and David Boyle from the side which gained first innings points over Central Districts in the most recent round. The team is: David Dempsey (captain), Blair Hartland, Paul McEwan, Rod Latham, Peter Kennedy, Max Bremner, David Hartshorn, Lee Germon, Mark Priest, Andrew Hintz, Bill Law-

rence, Michael Holding. The other member of the training squad to stay home is Andrew Nuttall, though the convener of the Canterbury selection panel, Bryan Andrews, said last evening all 15 players would be retained until the end of the competition. “The game against Auckland starting on Monday is vital, one that we need 16 points from,” said Mr Andrews. “With that in mind we have selected the most attacking side for that match.” Both Hintz and Priest have passed fitness tests

since suffering leg injuries in recent games.

Hartshorn has earned his first trophy selection this summer. His promotion was no doubt prompted in part by the success of Wellington’s Australian ~ leg-spinner, Bob Holland, at the Eden Park No. 2 and the Basin Reserve venues. After meeting ’ Auckland, which will be strengthened by the return from Australia of Danny Morrison, Canterbury stops over in Wellington for a trophy game starting next Friday.
