This recently established position will be in charge of two small hospitals in Golden Bay, one mainly geriatric and the other maternity. With the recently formed Golden Bay Community Health Committee and the Community Care Group, there is increasing community involvement in local health services, and the Principal Nurse would be involved in assisting the community to set priorities and develop improved health services. Golden Bay has a wealth of attractions particularly for those who enjoy the outdoor life. The eastern part of the bay is bounded by the Abel Tasman National Park which provides some of the most beautiful coastal scenery in New Zealand. On the western side the North West Nelson State Forest Park provides a much more rugged and imposing boundary, crossed by the famous Heaphy Track. Limestone caves, goldfields, and beautiful beaches all contribute to the attractions of this area. The person we are looking for to be new Principal Nurse will have RGON/RM or RCpN/RM registrations with preferably an advanced nursing qualification. She or he will have the ability to work with groups and individuals to co-ordinate local community effort in the development of improved health services for the Golden Bay district.
