Cup stake to rise?
PA Wellington The stake for next year’s Foster’s Wellington Cup at Trentham is expected to rise to $400,000. Speculation was rife in Wellington racing circles yesterday morning that such a figure would be attached to the cup, though no official comment had been made by the sponsors, Carlton and United Breweries, or by the Wellington Racing Club.
This year’s Foster’s Wellington Cup, to be run at Trentham next Saturday, will be worth $300,000. Last year’s cup was worth $250,000.
