Islanders sue for ‘neglect’
By GIL BREITKREUTZ NZPA-AAP Brisbane An sAustsoo billion compensation claim against the Federal Government is looming on the northern horizon from 8000 angry Torres Strait Islanders who say they are the victims of official neglect. “We have continually asked for help, but we have been ignored for too long,” said the Islanders’ Co-ordinating Council chairman, Mr George Mye. The Islanders hoped to engage Mr George Masterman, Q.C., and former New South Wales ombudsman, to fight their case.
