Racing guide twice weekly
PA Wellington The racing guide, “Turf Digest,” will be published twice a ■ week from next month. The, surprise announcement is a complete turnaround from last year when Turf Digest said it would give up cover of early and mid-week racing and go on sale on a Thursday instead of the present Tuesday. ’’You could say the industry was screaming a little bit and we just reviewed things,” the general manager of Inprint,
Mr Alan West, said. The company’s previous general manager, Mr David Bale, said last year that Turf Digest was not making any money and something had to be done.
But Mr West sees the latest move as a positive step to remedy the situation.
“We are trying to save the situation rather than see it decline and hence our decision to see how two books a week will go,” Mr West said Because the early mid-
week Turf Digest will cover fewer race meetings, Mr West said it will probably sell for $1.50 as compared to $2 for the present edition.
To help Turf Digest survive Mr West said he was hopeful some clubs would take up the opportunity to use the book as an official racecard, which was tried on a small scale a couple of years ago.
”It wasn’t a great success then but I don’t think it was given enough time,” he said.
