Show tomorrow

Last year’s Banks Peninsula Show had a record gate-takings, and with a wide variety of events and exhibitions this year’s should prove just as successful. Secretary of the Banks Peninsula Show committee, Mr Peter Sibley, said it would be hard to estimate exactly how many people came to this very popular event, but thinks it would be “about 4000 to 5000 people.” The Banks Peninsula Show, to be held in the Little River Domain this Saturday, is now in its 76th year. Months of planning by the Banks Peninsula Show committee, under the direction of president Neil Manson, will culminate in a hectic day’s entertainment for the whole family this Saturday, starting at 8.30 a.m. The horse show, one the main attractions of

the show, has attracted entries from all over Canterbury. Jumping, ring competition and western and side saddle riding will all be featured. Sheep entries are down slightly on last year’s show, but goat entries (both angora and milking goats) are up. Beef and dairy cattle sections have attracted a strong entry, and the Kennel Club will have up to 600 entries on Saturday. The Kennel Club section will be under the direction of Mr Toby Waldron, the successful organiser of the Ellerslie Dog Show. Contrasting sharply with static displays of produce and winecraft will be the Axeman Carnival. This wood-chopping competition promises some fast action. The Banks Peninsula Show is an ideal time to pack a picnic and get out to the Little River Domain. There is plenty of parking and admission is $3.50 for adults, $2 for children aged 12-16 years and children under 12 free.
