Century in vain

The highlight of the fourth day of the national women's second XI cricket tournament at Ham was a sound 100 by the Otago captain, Jan Hall.

However, her century was not enough to deny Manawatu, which overtook Otago’s total of 150 with nine wicket down.

The winner of Pool B, Hawke’s Bay, was untroubled to beat the second team from Pool A, Canterbury, which struggled to score against an accurate bowling attack.

The winner of Pool A, Wellington, did not have everything its own way against Wanganui. which scored 161. A heavy shower of rain reduced the match to 40 overs and Wellington reached the 100 it needed with only one wicket down. The other game was also curtailed by rain, North Shore being' too strong for Taranaki. Results:—
