Classic a family event
The commercial community of Queenstown has rallied behind the Percy Perch Fishing Classic. Local business has provided the source for most of the plush prizes for anglers. They have also shown strong support for the Percy Perch Fishing Classic Expo which is to be held in conjunction with the competition. Attendance is expected to be high for this largely free two day expo and related entertainment festival to be held in the Lake Hayes Showgrounds. A record 2,000 anglers are expected to participate in the Percy Perch Fishing Classic, while an over-all attendance of 10,000 through the expo is predicted. Exhibitors taking part in the expo are mainly
leisure lifestyle and sports related. A festive atmosphere is expected around the lake involving bands, musicians and a display of vintage, veteran and clas-
sic cars. Emphasis will also be placed on the educational aspects of conservation and water safety. Professional fishing guides will be amongst
those offering their expertise to the public. Gina Campbell will be present promoting the New Zealand Water Safety Council as one of the celebrity guests for the event.
In Queenstown proper retailers are joining in the festive theme with their own “Sellerbration” offering sale items.
Queenstown moteliers are allowing substantial family discounts and concessions during the weekend of the Percy Perch Queestown Fishing Classic.
Spokesperson for the Winton and Queenstown Rotary Clubs, Mr Bob Heenan reports that the response from all parties contacted has been, “fantastic.”
