Boy dies in cave-in
PA Auckland A boy died after being buried in a quarry last evening, in spite of the resucitation attempts of rescuers, the police said. He was Richard Franks, aged seven, of Otara. Constable John Fraser, of the Mangere police, said Richard and his brother and sister had been digging holes in the side of a sandhill at a Papatoetoe quarry. The pair, aged eight and five, had tried to pull Richard free after the cave-in. They then sought help from their grandfather at a nearby house.
