Canterbury women continue winning

Canterbury continued on its winning run in the Hansells Cup national women’s cricket tournament at North Shore when it overcame a bad start to comfortably beat Central Districts yesterday. Sent in to bat, Central Districts was always struggling against a tight attack and it was not helped by the loss of three wickets through run outs. Chasing a modest 102, Canterbury lost Nicki Turner early and Ann McKenna became another run out victim. However, Debbie Ford batted well and she was unbeaten on 58 when Canterbury achieved its target. On Saturday, Canterbury held Southern Districts to 159 for six off the allotted 60 overs and it worked its way through to 160 off 43 overs. Rebecca Millichip

and Catherine Campbell both took two wickets for Canterbury. Canterbury’s batting was spearheaded by Kirsty Bond’s half-cen-tury and 38 by Nicki Turner. Canterbury has won seven straight matches but its batting has given concern as it readies itself for a difficult finish against Auckland, Wellington and North Shore over the next three days.
