Arrests after death

PA Auckland South Auckland detectives have arrested three people in connection with the death of a man, aged 66, who was assaulted three times on Christmas Day. An Otara man, aged 55, will appear in the District Court at Otahuhu today charged with manslaughter. Two other men, also from Otara, will face assault charges in the same court on Wednesday. The victim was found lying unconscious on the front porch of his Franklyne Road, Otara, home about 7.30 a.m. on Saturday. The police said he was assaulted twice at a family party on Christmas Day. The man was later taken home, where he became involved in an argument with a neighbour.

He was assaulted again and died in Middlemore Hospital without regaining consciousness.
