Couple angry over show
PA Wellington An Upper Hutt couple who took part in the “Noel Edmonds Christmas Show” say they are angry and disgusted at the way their segment was handled by Television New Zealand. The show, which screened from 10 p.m. to midnight on Christmas Day, featured a number of New Zealanders who were chosen to speak to relatives in Britain. New Zealand’s contribution to the international telecast was filmed at Nicholson’s restaurant at Oriental Bay after bad weather forced a switch from Oriental Parade.
Lyn and Jim Dodd were chosen for a link-up with Jim’s mother, Katie, in Glasgow, along with Jim’s brother, Colin, of Masterton. The family had been told they would be given three minutes to speak to Katie, but in the end all they got was a few seconds on screen as part of a long shot of a crowd, Lyn Dodd said. “We were absolutely disgusted,” she said. “We emphasised that she hadn’t seen our two-year-old twin sons, and Les Hansen (the New Zealand segment producer) said they would give them a good view.
