Programme on Coast disrupted

Special correspondent Greymouth The postponement of the first day of the Westport Trotting Club’s meeting from Saturday until today has meant that some changes have had to be made to the conditions of the $lO,OOO West Coast Cooks and Idiens bonus, one of the features of the West Coast summer harness racing circuit. The transfer of the Westport second day to tomorrow and the scheduling of the Reefton Trotting Club’s annual meeting for Wednesday has created problems for administrators of both clubs. The Reefton Trotting Club executive met on Saturday morning and decided to proceed with the closing of their withdrawals on Saturday as planned and will declare their fields after the running of the Westport Trotting Club’s first day. The club faced major administrative problems such as race book printing and the notification to trainers of horses not already on the circuit should they have elected to defer the declaration of their fields and take account of the Westport second day happenings. A number of fresh horses are expected to race at Reefton and the Reefton Trotting Club took the logical view that it was unlikely trainers would wish to line up for the three days racing. This has meant that' only winners of the maiden races on the first day at Westport will be eligible to compete for the West Coast bonus. Those winners may then elect to race in the Cl race on the second day at Westport, one of the Cl races at Reefton or continue as previously and race at both meetings.
