$NZ little changed

PA Wellington The New Zealand dollar closed steady yesterday after a day of lacklustre trade. Dealers said they did not expect any major changes before January. The kiwi closed at U564.45/55C against its opening at U564.55/65c and down on Friday’s close at U 564.70/ 80c. Its traded high was U564.58C and its low was U564.10C. On cross rates, the kiwi was worth Aust9o.B4c, 1.0491 marks, 35.28 pence, 81.722 yen and 0.8522 Swiss francs.

The Reserve Bank trade weighted index closed at 64.4, up from its 64.2 opening, but unchanged from Friday’s close. In Sydney the Australian dollar closed at the day's high of U571.20/25c after earlier slipping below the US7IC barrier, dealers said. On the Reserve Bank’s trade weighted index the Australian dollar closed easier at 52 points after opening slightly down at 52.2 from 52.3 on Friday.
