Durand moves to top of World Cup
NZPA-Reuter Bordeaux France’s Pierre Durand moved to the top of World Cup show jumping standings on Sunday despite an error on Jappeloup de Luze at the final fence in the Bordeaux grand prix. Durand, the European champion, was the fastest of the group in a jump-off against the clock, but four faults at the last fence pushed him down to sixth place. Five
riders achieved cleai rounds. The quickest was Austria’s Thomas Fruehmann on Grandeur, followed by Switzerland’s Willi Meliger on Malesan Corso, and Britain’s Nick Skelton on J. Nftek. Durand edged the Dutch rider, Wout-Jan van der Schans, who did not compete in Bordeaux, from the top spot in the standings. He has 51 points to van der Schans’ 50.
