Motorist escapes lightly
A man escaped with minor injuries when his car left the Motunau Beach road, ran through long grass, through a deer fence and ricocheted off an oak tree before stopping yesterday morning. Warren Peter Rowney, aged 26, was taken to the Christchurch Hospital by ambulance after com-
plaining about a chest injury, but was later discharged, Constable Kirk Newman of the Cheviot police said that the car was travelling north on the Motunau Beach road by State highway one when it left the road. He said that Mr Rowney had flown in from Australia earlier in the
morning and was off,, to visit family in the Wakefield district near Nelson. The 47 deer in the paddock had raced to the other end of the enclosure, said Constable Newman. The gap in the fence was then policed by himself and a traffic officer until the owner could return to fix it.
