Soccer fans arrested

NZPA-AFP Hanover Several people, including three policemen, were injured and eight arrested as football fans ran riot after a Bundesliga match at Hanover on Saturday. The police said an unspecified number of people were hurt in fighting when fans of Schalke ’O4 went on the rampage after their side was beaten, 3-1, by Hanover ’96,

the two winning goals coming in the last few minutes. The police moved in to quell the trouble, arresting' eight people, but three officers were injured in the affray. The police also arrested 113 supporters of the champions, Bayern Munich, when they arrived there totally drunk before their team’s West German league game

against Hamburg. The fans, who had already set about smashing up the train bringipg them from Munich, were packed off straight back to the Bavarian capital by the police. The French Rugby Federation management committee decided to introduce heavier penalties for players next season and double the fines handed out to their clubs.
