Inaugural transplant hailed
The heart transplant at Green Lane Hospital was a hopeful sign for Canterbury heart patients, said Dr Hamid Ikram, a cardiologist at* the Princess Margaret Hospital, yesterday. “It means they are in business, they are doing
operations and depending on who matches who, we will get our patients dealt with.” Dr Ikram said that one Canterbury heart’ patient (Phillip Robinson, aged 13), was waiting at Green Lane and others suitable for tran-
splants were waiting in Christchurch. “There are at least five people I can think of who may be suitable. These patients would probably have had to go to Sydney’s St Vincent’s Hospital if Green Lane was not performing the surgery, he said.
