Trawler search off

PA Napier Rescue workers last night called off the offidal search for the missing Napier fishing trawler Deep Sea H, saying they were convinced it had had a mishap and chances of finding the crew alive were negligible.

The missing men were: Sven Kristensen, aged 38, the skipper; and his crew, Bede Parker and Stu Hamilton. The search controller, Flying Officer Peter Northcote, said it was probable the trawler had sunk, but 40 flying hours of searching 38,000 square nautical miles of ocean had failed to find the vessel or a liferaft. “All reasonable search possibilities based on known intelligence have been exhausted,” Flying Officer Northcote said.
