Economic policies

Sir, —Viewers of TV news, listeners to radio news reports, and readers of the print media must by now be aware of the manner in which financial news, stockmarket reports, movement of shares and. the like have begun to impinge on our thinking. This less-than-subtle form of brainwashing must be seen for what it is, an apparently successful ploy by the status quo to condition our minds into a bland acceptance of our Government’s (whether National or Labour), anti-people, monetarist, userpays economic policies. It is no coincidence that this conditioning process is occurring a^ the

same time as the burgeoning influence of the Business Round Table on Government and trade union thinking. The “restructuring” of the New Zealand economy, including Draconian measures such as the rape of our postal services, gives the lie to any humanitarian pretence the Labour Government might proffer in mitigation.—Yours, etc.,

BILL FILSHIE. November 30, 1987.
