Pleasing post-auction results
A 3167 square metre mix of industrial land and buildings in four titles was passed in at
$815,000 when offered for auction on November 20. Negotiations are continuing. The site was described as suitable for warehousing or manufacturing. Bidding was “keen” with an estimated 28 people in attendance. The auctioneer was Mr Albert Sprott for Wrightson Real Estate in conjunction with M. B. Cook and Co. A Georgian-style mansion of more than 4000 square feet set on 31 acres of prime land was passed in at $550,000 when offered at auction recently. It sold immediately afterward
unconditionally at a figure considerably higher. The property was auctioned by Neumann Prier. It had a 1987 Government Valuation of $464,000. Features of the slate roofed house included a formal dining area, dining room, family rooms, and five bedrooms. On the section are three tunnel houses producing export quality grapes. About 25 people attended the auction. The last of the Railways Corporation blocks of land surplus to requirements after the cancellation of the Sockburn/Styx loop
was auctioned recently by Neumann Prier. The vacant land covered an area of about 70 acres (28.4680 hectares), facing north on to Yaldhurst Road. It was zoned Rural 3 and had a 1987 Government Valuation of $378,000. Bidding was extremely brisk from the crowd of an estimated 40 people in attendance. The land was vacant but was suggested as suitable for either an orchard or stud farm. Mr Kent Prier of Neumann Prier commented that in a year notable, for high interest in commercial land the railways surplus has consistently drawn an enthusiastic response at auction.
