Y.W.C.A. to promote peace

PA Wellington The Y.W.C.A. wants families to commit themselves to the ideal of peace by not buying war toys for their children this Christmas. The national president, Mrs Judith Nathan, said the Y.W.C.A. national committee decided to

follow the example of its Australian counterpart in promoting the theme that peace began at home. The Australian Y.W.C.A. promoted toy shops that refused to sell war toys and the New Zealand organisation wanted to promote any that took the same action. Promotion of peace was

one of the themes discussed at this year’s world Y.W.C.A. meeting which Mrs Nathan attended. Promotion of human rights was also a theme. Because of this the New Zealand committee at a recent meeting decided to write to Fletcher Challenge in protest at its links with South Africa.
