High price tipped for Girls’ High land
The old Christchurch Girls’ High School sports court near Cranmer Square will be auctioned soon, and the auctioneers predict it could command up to $5 million. The 2043 sq m site is zoned commercial 3, allowing for the develop■ment of big buildings, such aS offices, hotels, or restaurants, according to
Mr James Melville, of Prime Real Estate, the company conducting the auction. Earlier this year the Sheraton Hotel and associated interests bought many other sites on the block, including the New Zealand Motor Corporation property, the Lutheran Church and two residential properties,
said Mr Melville. Partington Properties announced in May that a 1100 million Sheraton Hotel would be built on that Worcester Street site. Sheraton later said that it was placing its plans on hold, saying Christchurch had many other hotel developments under way. The auction will be held on December 17.
