The blind American singer Stevie Wonder is presented with an AMP civil defence manual in Braille by the Minister of Civil Defence, Dr Michael Bassett (right), during the entertainer’s recent New Zealand tour. Stevie was caught in his Los Angeles recording studio in October, when a 6.3 on Richter scale earthquake struck, killing five people in the city and causing considerable damage. Funded by AMP, civil defence manuals in Braille, large print and talking book format were launched by the Royal New Zealand Foundation for the Blind. Copies are being posted direct to the foundation’s 7000 members.
