Topweights dropped out of Auck. Cup

The topweights, Lomondy, Colour Page and Secret Seal, have dropped out of the Auckland Cup. When a first acceptance closed on Wednesday, 63 of the 111 entries remained in the DB-sponsored 3200rnetres event. Another notable absentee, from both the Auckland Cup and Lion Red Avondale Cup, is Classic Bay. Secured Deposit, with 54.5 kg, now heads the Auckland Cup from Royal Grit (54kg). The reverse applies in the Avondale Cup in which Royal Grit through the non-accept-ance of Colour Page and Secret Seal, is top weight with 55kg, followed by Secured Deposit, and Kotare Chief, on 54.5 kg. A first acceptance was made for 42 of the 89 horses entered for Avondale. A second acceptance for the Avondale Cup will close at noon next Thursday and for the Auckland Cup on Monday, December 21. Sixty-three three-year-olds remain in the Troy New Zealand Derby. A special late nomination and acceptance may be made up to 10 a.m. on Monday, December 21, and a final payment falls due at noon that day.
