Seafarer’s celebration
Nearly 100 seafarers from throughout New Zealand will meet in Lyttelton today for a special Christmas celebration. The Seafarers Welfare Association has held an "old timers” Christmas party for the last 21 years and, to acknowledge the tradition hasdecided this
year to extend it to a three-day event. Seafarers have been invited from all ports to get together and meet their old ship mates. To begin the celebration today the group will be taken on a launch trip and then shown films on the history of the Sea-
men’s Union and labour movement in New Zealand. Tomorrow the old timers party will be held and on Saturday they will cruise on the Tuhoi down the Kaiapoi River. The event will end with a ball on Saturday evening.
