Two killed in plane crash
PA Wellington Two people died when a light plane crashed into a scrub-covered gully 4 near Taupo yesterday. The aircraft was seen flying low over Loqhinver Station near the boundary with the Kaknanawa For- ’ est Park at 9.30 a.m. Moments later a crash was heard, and the wreckage of the Viper Tripacer was later found in afgUlly on Lochinver Statioiy.3o kilometres east of iWpo. Rescue personnel were
flown to the scene and it was established that the occupants had died on impact. The plane was badly damaged. The police named the pilot as Vernon Rom Wood, aged ■ 60, of Stoke (near Nelson). His passenger was Dennis Patrick Muliooly, aged 32, of Opotiki. An inspector of air accidents arrived in Taupo yesterday afternoon and was flown to the crash site.
