The New Zealand women’s hockey team will have the opportunity to prove to the International Hockey Federation that its exclusion from the Olympics was unwarranted.

The five are Australia,

Canada, Britain, South Korea, and the Netherlands. The tournament will be from March IB to 27 and a New Zealand squad of 18 win gather In Christchurch on February 21 for a four week coaching clinic before leaving tor Australia, the council of the New Zealand Women’s Hoekey Association was told at its meeting in Wellington at the week-end.

Three replacements have been made to the New Zealand squad now training In Christchurch.

Tina Bell (Otago), Robyn Toomey (Waikato) and Anna Symes (Wanganui) have withdrawn and they have been replaced by Cathy Thompson and Kate Trolove (both Canterbury) and Leanne Birkenhead (Auckland). Mrs Mauree Ogier (Canterbury) has been appointed to manage the team to Perth, and Katherine Perry (Auckland) will be the physiotherapist

The New Zealand squad will get an indication of how valuable its present coaching school has been when it plays

two tests against South Korea in Christchurch on December 12 and 13. The Koreans arrive in Christchurch on December * for 18 days of training which includes the two tests. The council decided to start a national Interclub championship next year to be run on similar lines to the Adidas national men’s competition which has been operating for several seasons.
