Space seminar first in N.Z.
New Zealand’s first seminar on space communications will be held in Wellington on December 1. The seminar has been sponsored by the electrical and electronic engineering department of Auckland University and will feature speakers from Australia and Canada. It is aimed at business and Government people and will cover recent developments and future possibilities in the use of satellites for broadcasting,
private data networks, and mobile ground-station telecommunications. The seminar would be particularly timely in view of the recent launch of the third Australian satellite Aussat-3 and its planned'use by New Zealand, said the organiser, Professor Colin Franklin of Auckland University. Dr Franklin is a New Zealander who has speht most of his working life in satellite communications development in Canada and Europe.
