Galant suspension

Mitsubishi will be the first major car makers to employ active suspension on one of its production models, an all-new Galant. The system is pneumatic and Mitsubishi calls it Active ECS (for Active Electronically Controlled Suspension). The system has sensors for steering angle, throttle opening and brake pedal, as well as sensors that determine the car’s attitude from such factors as speed, suspension stroke and lateral acceleration.

This information is processed by a computer which signals a compressor to alter the hardness of the auxiliary air springs on each, suspension tower and alters the damper settings to actively suppress body roll, dive and squat, as well as vertical bounce on rough roads. It is likely that a car fitted with the new suspension system will reach some dealers’ showrooms overseas before the end of this year. .
