Cup defence nears
Members of the Sunnyside Hospital sports team with the “Top Hospital” sports cup which they will defend at a competition in the Bay of Islands on Saturday.

Marshall, Alistair Cree, Gary Reid, Paul Spurr (rear), Melanie Smith, and Chris King. The team won the cup last year when the competition was held at Templeton Hospital. It was the first time that South Island hospitals had been asked to compete in the event, which was first held in 1980 when the Waikato Hospital Board gave the cup.
The 16 members of the Sunnyside team comprise mainly nurses. Each member has paid $l5O towards the cost of the trip and has taken annual leave in order to participate. The organisers of the team, Ms Nicky Brankin and Mr Steve Jones, said that all team members had been involved in fund-raising events to meet the total trip cost of $5506.
