Helicopter seized
A helicopter believed to have been used for deer poaching at Porters Pass was seized near Oxford yesterday by the Department of Conservation. Rangiora police assisted the department and one man was arrested for obstruction early yesterday. The seizing was made after complaints from residents and conserva-
tion staff about deer recovery. It might take several days for the department to decide whether to proceed with a poaching prosecution, said its Canterbury regional manager, Mr Kerry Mawhinney. He would talk to witnesses of the alleged incidents, his staff, and consider other evidence before making a decision.
