National probes
National’s leader in the House, Mr Bill Birch (Maramarua), made no progress in Parliament yeesterday in flushing out the Government’s intentions. He asked whether it was proposed to introduce legislation to require all members of a political party to pay the same membership fee, to prevent trade unions dominating the Labour Party. The Minister of State, Mr Hunt, said there were no proposals before the Government for such legislation. This is literally true; the proposals so far have all been informal.
