Society name kept

PA Auckland Proposals for a name change were defeated at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Crippled Children Society in Auckland. Delegates defeated the measure by 34 votes to 29. The president of the Auckland branch, Mr John Moody, said that a name change could seriously affect the society’s fund-raising activities and

public relations. “The abrupt loss of identity would confuse the public who, as our main benefactors, are used to the old name.” Mr Moody said that a recent survey In Auckland showed strong opposition to dropping the society’s 50-year-old name. Some branches called for the removal of the word "crippled,” claiming it was derogatory.
