Wetere son on charge

PA Wellington Publicising the name of a Cabinet Minister’s son before he appeared in court was in the “very worst traditions of the press,” the District Court at Wellington was told yesterday. Mr Peter Boshier made the comment when appearing for Koro Tainui Wetere, a son of the Minister of Maori Affairs.

Wetere, aged 26, a prison officer, of Newlands, pleaded not guilty to a charge of assaulting Christine Mary Edward, in Tawa on October 27. Wetere elected summary jurisdiction and was remanded at large until December 7 for a date for a fixture.
