Car accident kills two

Two persons were killed when the car in which they were travelling between Blenheim and Picton struck a bank and rolled over about 6 p.m. on Tuesday. They were:

Karen Marie Thomas, aged 30, of Stephenson Street, Blenheim; and her brother-in-law, John Frederick PrangnelL aged 31, of the same address. The accident was on

State highway 1 near Para Swamp, about five kilometres north of Tuamarina. The two were the only occupants of the car. Both died soon after admission to Wairau Hospital.

The Blenheim police expressed appreciation yesterday morning of the assistance given by members of the public at the scene of the accident. The car was extensively damaged. The Blenheim fire brigade washed split fuel and oil off the road.
