Grants allocated
A total of $217,602 has been distributed to Canterbury organisations by the Christchurch City Council’s grants special committee. Cultural organisations received . $32,150, community organisations, $67,100, and sports organisations, $58,300. Among the recipients, were the Christchurch Arts Centre which received $32,889 as the second part of a three-year grant for earthquake-strengthening. Summer Times got $10,500 towards its pro-
gramme, shared between cultural, sporting and community allocations.The committee recommended $2OOO for the community centres’ fund from which centres can obtain low-interest loans. The money for dlstribu- ~ tion came from the Hillary . Commission ($168,200), sll,97A,jrom loans repaid, and $3026 from previous? grants not collected. More, than 200 organisations sought grants totalling $723M.'
